Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
- Job 14:4
This is about two elements which have a huge impact on spiritual growth: the seed and the soil.
1. The Seed
At the beginning of creation, God determined what comes from seed. Genesis 1:11 states, "And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so."
So, who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.
Uncorrupted growth comes from clean seed, and corrupted growth comes from unclean seed. But, some people fool themselves thinking they can still produce clean growth from an unclean heart. It does not compute.
1 Peter 1:23, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
We are given that seed when we become Born Again. From there, that new seed, as it grows, gets attacked by three things;
The world and all its trapping and false glory (Pride)
Our flesh and the lusts that come with that
The Devil, meaning Satan and evils spirits who shoot fiery darts into our minds for one purpose, to make us unclean and kill off God's growth.
Our job is the resist those three fake powers and maintain the incorruptibility given to us, as hard as that may seem at times. By not resisting hard enough, we lose our promised crown.
Seed cannot look after itself; however, when God gives us the seed, it is then our responsibility to maintain the growth in clean and sustainable conditions for profitability.
2. The Soil Matthew 13:3-9 (Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.) "Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold."
Here we have God's seed — holy, righteous, pure, and unrefined by man — sprinkled over several types of soils. The seed sown was the plant that grew regardless of the soil type. It was only the prolificacy of the seed that was determined by the soil. When our hearts are right with God, and the seed is allowed to do its job in good soil, we have the opportunity for immense spiritual growth.
Today's Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the seed within. Please help me to understand how it could get corrupted in my life, and please help me resist corrupting influences and maintain the seed in sound condition to allow high yield for you.
